Extended- Release by Ion Exchange Resin
This platform technology combines ion exchange technology and multilayer coating technology, which is applied to medications with extended-release attributes. Drug substance impregnates onto the ion exchange resins to form a drug-resin complex. The drugs were released from the drug-resin complex by exchanging with counter ions in the gastrointestinal tract (GIT) upon administration.
The release rate of drugs in the human body could be designed as either immediate or extended release. Said platform technology could be employed for taste-masking, drug abuse-deterrent, fast disintegration products and improving drug stability. Additionally, one unique feature of said technology is particularly valuable for pediatric and geriatric populations as it could significantly mitigate their swallability issues. Sunny has employed said technology to an oral liquid extended-release project.
